Trade Republic: Customers complain about problems with their tax returns – what’s behind it

Small amounts of cents, big confusion: Tax programs report errors in tax certificates from Trade Republic.
In forums like Reddit, there are currently posts from Trade Republic customers who encountered a problem: When they filed their tax returns with tax programs like Wiso, they reported errors when entering the tax certificate from Trade Republic.
The Handelsblatt reported this on Thursday, citing those affected, and then asked the question: Did Trade Republic pay too little tax?
The answer: No, the neobroker doesn’t.
In fact, as a spokesperson for the company explains and experts interviewed confirm, only “rounding differences” lead to the tax programs reporting errors during input.
This happens to people who have made many transactions with Trade Republic during the last tax year – because the deviations, which are in the cent range, then add up.

While the tax program Elster accepts deviations of up to approximately one euro, others are more sensitive. The software provider Wiso has now announced that it will relax its checks and incorporate a tolerance for rounding differences in the future.
Just recently, Trade Republic customers were annoyed by another problem: Several users of the crypto savings plans reported failed transactions with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and other cryptocurrencies .
A Trade Republic spokesperson confirmed to Gründerszene that there had been brief delays in the execution of crypto savings plans, but that these were quickly rectified.
However, the savings amount was then sometimes debited twice from the cash balance, but only once into the account. The broker also rectified this problem the same day.
Trade Republic was founded in Munich in 2015 by Christian Hecker, Thomas Pischke and Marco Cancellieri and is one of the first online brokers in Germany to enable trading in stocks, ETFs, derivatives, bonds and cryptocurrencies.
Since the end of 2023, Trade Republic has also been a fully licensed bank based in Berlin. The company's competitors include Scalable Capital , eToro, XTB, Degiro, Revolut, and N26.
