Telefónica will present its strategic plan in November

Telefónica will present its strategic plan in November

Telefónica could announce the results of its strategic review next November, according to an announcement made Wednesday by Borja Ochoa, president of Telefónica Spain.

During his speech at the annual DigitalES Summit, Ochoa further outlined the date on which the company plans to announce to the markets the new roadmap announced by the group's president, Marc Murtra, upon taking office last January.

Murtra then announced that his goal was to launch the plan during the second half of the year, and this Wednesday, the president of Telefónica Spain provided more details. He stated that the definition of the plan began a month and a half ago and that they intend to present it to the markets "by the end of November."

In his first public appearance since being appointed president of the Spanish subsidiary last April, Ochoa said that in this strategic plan they want to "describe what we want the company to be in the next three to five years" in terms of its technological focus and the creation of value for the ecosystem of customers and investors.

Fewer operators

In line with what Telefónica 's leadership and the industry as a whole have been advocating in recent years, Ochoa advocated for fewer telecommunications operators in Europe to be more competitive with the United States or China, where there are only three major national telecoms companies.

According to the president of Telefónica Spain, "Europe does not have an ideal competitive position" and needs to adapt its market "with fewer players " to achieve greater "scale" and greater investment capacity.

For Ochoa , there also needs to be "regulation that fosters" this improved competitive environment, and he believes that positive steps have been taken in that direction recently.

Bet on artificial intelligence

In his speech, the president of Telefónica Spain stated that Artificial Intelligence is "ultra-strategic" for his company, and they will have a "very aggressive" approach to its implementation in each line of business. He also highlighted the customer service boost they launched this week at Movistar , with more personalized service.
