The mayor of Tacámbaro and one of his bodyguards are murdered

MORELIA, Mich. (apro).- The mayor of Tacámbaro, Salvador Bastida García, and one of his bodyguards were killed in a shooting attack, the Michoacán State Attorney General's Office (FGE) reported.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, as the mayor arrived at his home, located on Fuerte de Loreto Street in the Centro neighborhood of that district.
The FGE reported that Pastor C., a state Civil Guard officer who was acting as Bastida García's escort, died at the scene aboard the double-cab pickup truck in which he was traveling.
Meanwhile, the mayor was seriously injured and was treated by paramedics and rushed to María Zendejas Hospital, where his death was confirmed.
After being notified of the events, FGE personnel traveled to the hospital and the scene of the attack, where the respective procedures were carried out and the bodies were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) facilities for the required autopsy.
Likewise, the law enforcement agency stated that the corresponding investigation file has been opened to conduct inquiries into the case in an effort to quickly clarify the facts.
Although a search operation involving members of several security forces was launched after the attack, no reports were made of the possible arrest of anyone suspected of being involved in the double murder.
