The Roig Arena now boasts Europe's largest central video scoreboard: 250 m2 of screen and 9 tons.

The Roig Arena , the new pavilion to host sporting competitions, major concerts, and all kinds of events in Valencia, promoted by Mercadona President Juan Roig, is already counting down the days until its opening on September 6th with a tribute concert to Nino Bravo . An army of workers of all kinds are working hard to prepare the various facilities, including the largest central LED video scoreboard in Europe , which crowns the arena.

A giant , four-sided, rounded cube with a screen area of 250 square meters and weighing 9 tons, manufactured by the Korean technology company LG , whose brand appears on 90% of the video scoreboards in major Spanish stadiums, according to its president in Spain, Jaime de Jaraiz . Measuring 11 meters high by 9 meters wide , it is the largest central screen of its kind in all of Europe and the largest manufactured to date by the technology giant. It is also the LED screen of its kind with the highest resolution on the entire continent.

According to the company itself, the biggest challenge for these dimensions is ensuring that the content broadcast is of sufficient quality . In the case of the Roig Arena , a higher height than other existing cubes was specifically requested precisely because the technology implemented throughout the venue will allow for 4K playback , according to those responsible for the arena.

The structure also has two smaller screens inside, positioned so that the rows of spectators closest to the court and the players themselves, from the center of the court, can view the images.

It will move with 8 engines

But this macro screen isn't just designed for Valencia Basket's basketball games . The team will play their home games in the most modern arena on the continent, based on the latest technology from major sports venues around the world. Eight motors allow the structure to be lowered to the floor in just three minutes to be used as a background screen at conferences and other events. Or it can be raised to its maximum height and practically hidden away.

It's not the only technological marvel from LG, which has become a sponsor and technology partner of the venue . The interior also houses, in one of its corners, what the president of LG Spain described as the largest indoor LED screen in Europe, with a total area of 500 m2 . It is 75 meters long and 6.75 meters high.

In total, the new venue, fully financed by Juan Roig, has 28 screens covering 1,800 square meters and nearly 500 monitors , including completely transparent OLED technology screens in the 25 VIP boxes.

Eye on the facade

The other major technological symbol will be visible from the outside, as it is a screen on the façade in one of the corners above the main entrance, shaped like an eye and measuring over 300 m2 . A system that LG compares to the one installed on the façade of Wembley Stadium in terms of size, although in this case with the technical complication that its shape is not the classic rectangular one, giving the appearance of an eye.

Although neither LG nor those responsible for the Roig Arena provided details of the investment and cost of these devices manufactured by the brand in Korea and China, the venue's general manager, Victor Sendra , explained that they are in the testing phase and completing the assembly of the venue to meet the planned deadlines.

The Roig Arena, whose total cost exceeded 300 million euros, already has its first major event scheduled: a tribute concert to Nino Bravo with artists such as David Bisbal, Marta Sánchez, and Víctor Manuel on September 6.
