WhatsApp will use AI to read for you: these are the new automatic summaries

Meta's artificial intelligence is available on WhatsApp for all users in Spain . This virtual assistant, identified as a blue circle, answers questions and generates content thanks to the Llama 3.2 model, which allows it to generate answers through its knowledge base or by searching the internet. In the future, this AI will be able to generate images and even summarize messages, although the latter feature has already been rolled out to certain users.

The message summarization feature first surfaced in early May , but recently, WABetaInfo reported that the tool is now available to some beta testers and will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks. But what exactly is this new feature? WhatsApp's new AI-powered feature allows users to privately summarize messages in chats and groups, allowing them to quickly catch up on unread messages.

As can be seen in the image shared by WABetaInfo, users must enable "Private Processing" from the app's settings to generate concise summaries of unread messages. Once enabled, a dedicated button for summarizing messages appears , and to view the summary, simply tap the button that displays unread messages. A private request is then sent to the Private Processing system, which securely returns the summary without storing message data.

On the other hand, it's important to mention that message summaries are generated with Meta AI , but are processed securely using 'Private Processing' — that is, a system designed to protect user privacy at all times, ensuring that no message content leaves the protected environment.

This feature will be optional for users. Therefore, those who choose not to use this tool can avoid tapping the "X unread messages" button or simply disable the feature from the app 's settings.

Regarding its availability, this feature is already available for some users of the WhatsApp Beta version for Android ; however, looking ahead, WABetaInfo reports that "it will be rolled out to more people in the coming weeks."
