Faced with more than 270 fires in the last few days, the country has no Canadair aircraft to fight the forest fires. Criticism is rife in the press and among politicians.

This weekend of July 26th and 27th, Bulgarian firefighters successfully fought to extinguish 200 fires, according to the head of the General Directorate of Fire Safety, Alexander Djartov. However, more than 260 localities are still threatened. The largest fire is located in the Pirin tourist region (southwestern Bulgaria), where more than 12,000 hectares have already burned. Ninety percent of these fires are caused by human activity, and some observers believe Bulgaria is unable to cope with them.
