Forest fires: how AI helps firefighters

The increase in fires is a cause for concern. In 2022, more than 7,000 fires were recorded, compared to an average of 4,000 between 2007 and 2018. According to Météo France, the areas exposed to the risk have increased by 18% in half a century. Faced with this trend, firefighters are relying on rapid detection. In Gironde, for example, cameras powered by artificial intelligence have been installed to quickly spot the first signs of fire.
