Following intense heatwaves, Météo France announced on Friday, July 4, 2025, that 14 departments – in Rhône-Alpes, around the Mediterranean, and in Corsica – would remain on orange heatwave alert.

Parts of the Rhône-Alpes region, the Mediterranean coast and Corsica are still experiencing intense heat, with 14 departments on orange heatwave alert as of Friday, July 4, according to Météo France.

The departments that remain under orange alert are Isère, Drôme, Ardèche, Vaucluse, Gard, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, Hérault, Aude, Pyrénées-Orientales and the two departments of Corsica.

"On Friday, the very high temperatures will be restricted to the Mediterranean regions, the middle Rhone valley, and the Grenoble basin, where maximum temperatures will still reach 32 to 37°C, or even occasionally reach 38/39°C in the interior of Provence," the meteorological service indicated in its latest bulletin published at 6:00 a.m.

"At the end of the night, temperatures remain high, between 20 and 23 degrees in the lower Rhône valley, and up to 26°C near the Mediterranean, such as in Perpignan, Aigues-Mortes, Marignane or Ajaccio, and even 28°C in Menton," adds Météo France.

On Wednesday and Thursday, most of the country experienced the final days of a heatwave that will go down in history for its early onset, duration and record temperatures.
