The best phone for taking pictures came out over a year ago, it's not a Samsung or an iPhone

Are you convinced that your latest Samsung phone or your latest iPhone is the best for taking pictures? Think again! While the latest high-end smartphones from the two industry giants are certainly excellent in this area, they are clearly not the best according to this official ranking.
DxOMark is a research institute specializing in tech product testing. Smartphones, cameras, speakers, and laptops are all devices tested according to strict standards, allowing the institute to regularly establish a ranking of the best products in each category. The number one ranking is notably quite old, as it's a model released in... April 2024!

The ranking of the best smartphones for photography is regularly shaken up by the arrival of new models that aim to establish themselves as the best in the field. Whether it's Oppo, Google, or Samsung, manufacturers are not lacking in ingenuity and technology to push the boundaries of photography.
However, the best smartphone to date according to the DxoMark laboratory is neither a Samsung phone, nor an iPhone, nor even a very recent smartphone. It is the latest Huawei Pura 70 Ultra released in April 2024. This very high-end smartphone therefore sits at the top of the DxOMark site ranking. It is closely followed by the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, the Honor Magic6 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. For Samsung fans, you have to go down to 29th place in the ranking to find the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, which particularly shines in photography, but struggles a little on low-light shots as well as on video.
We're therefore seeing some progress from Chinese brands in terms of photography. This is hardly surprising, given that manufacturers like Huawei and Honor have established themselves as leaders in the field for several years. The latest Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is even available in France and features Google services via a few small tweaks, as we were able to try out when it was released.
The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, however, is expected to soon make way. Its successor, the Pura 80 Ultra, was recently announced and launched in China with some exceptional new camera components.
