8.7 million digital documents added to the Io App

As part of the It-Wallet digital project hosted by the App Io, a total of 8.7 million digital documents have been added to the same app, including 4.5 million health cards, 4.1 million driving licenses and 100,000 European disability cards. These are the numbers, updated to May 13, that emerged on the sidelines of the event 'PagoPA: la pubblica amministrazione che agevolare', and can be consulted on the pagoPa website.
"The main development of the Io App is the Wallet, already downloaded by over 5 million Italians and on which in the future more products will be accessible than those currently available" underlined, speaking on the sidelines of the event, Alessandro Moricca, sole director of PagoPA. "We are working - he added - to bring other documents and thus allow citizens to have a clearer and more immediate identity, without the need to present self-certifications or other documents".
Again according to data updated yesterday, since 2020, over a billion messages have been sent by entities to users via the Io App, of which over 136 million in 2025, according to Moricca, "a huge milestone". Within the same app - which in the last 12 months has had 11.8 million active users - 350,882 services are available and 15,829 entities are active.
Looking at the geographical distribution of services, as far as municipalities are concerned, the regions with the best performances are Emilia-Romagna and Marche, with 100% of the administrations active on the app, followed by Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia with 99%. Last in the ranking is Calabria with 92%.
