Fitness and digital health, Huawei's new smartwatches are coming

Fitness and digital health, Huawei's new smartwatches are coming

Being the leader in smartwatch sales in China for the last six years, from 2019 to 2024, with 180 million units shipped overall, is certainly a milestone that Huawei holds dear and, rightly, highlights on every official occasion. And not only that, because the Chinese company - 12 years after entering the healthcare wearable device sector - also leads the world rankings for sales of wrist devices under $700. Aware, however, of the fact that confirming itself and keeping (strong) competition at bay does not tolerate slowdowns in terms of product innovation, the Chinese brand has sent a new signal to the market with the global launch (held today in Berlin) of the new Watch Fit 4 and Watch 5.

At the heart of Huawei's vision for the future of digital health and fitness is the TruSense system (based on proprietary technology), launched by the company in 2024 and now updated and enhanced to enrich the user experience of the new devices being announced. The big news is the presence of a distributed Super-Sensing module to perform even faster and more precise measurements of the user's health status thanks to fingertip detection and multimodal signal fusion. In other words, the process of monitoring the person's parameters now extends from the wrist to the fingertips, allowing the system to capture richer and more varied signals (optical, electrical, acoustic and mechanical) from multiple contact points and to combine the physiological data collected to improve the accuracy of the detections. Thanks to the naturally dense vascular structure and thinner skin of the fingers, we read in the note released by the Shenzen manufacturer, interference from melanin and hair is significantly reduced, offering a series of advantages and in particular in cardiovascular monitoring and in the speed of measuring oxygen in the blood. TruSense, the interested parties recall, manages more than 60 indicators of six of the main systems of the human body (circulatory, respiratory, nervous, endocrine, reproductive and muscular) and constitutes in all respects a complete tool for health control. One of its pluses? The complete health evaluation function Health Glance, capable of analyzing over 10 vital indicators (such as heart rate variability and evaluation of ovarian function) in just 60 seconds.

Huawei's stated goal is to define a new standard for smartwatches, combining innovative technologies and features with an ultra-thin and lightweight design. The Watch Fit 4 tries to respond to this challenge by showcasing a large 1.82-inch AMOLED display, customizable dials and advanced applications such as water sports monitoring, atmospheric pressure detection and an updated proprietary positioning system (Sunflower) to ensure greater precision in localization and route tracking, even in complex environments. The technical equipment of the FT series is now enriched by a barometer, offline color maps for detailed navigation without the need for an Internet connection, an ECG sensor for advanced heart health monitoring, voice guidance, a peak screen brightness of up to 3000 nits for greater visibility of maps in bright sunlight and a set of tools to improve the monitoring of your performance related to mountaineering, biking, diving and water sports, trekking and trail running. The promise, in short, is that of top-level performance at the service of an even richer outdoor sports experience and in the case of the Watch Fit 4 Pro model this is combined with the use of durable and high-quality materials such as sapphire glass and titanium alloy to ensure reliable protection of the device without compromising comfort and style. Having said about the battery, which guarantees up to 10 days of autonomy and compatibility with iOS and Android devices, here are finally the prices: the FIT 4 Pro enters the price list at 279 euros while the basic model can be purchased at 169 euros.

With the new Watch Series 5, on sale starting at 449 euros to the public,

Huawei has the ambition to combine aesthetics, sensors and advanced features to offer the user a stylish product to live better and monitor their health more accurately. To get to the current product, say the spokespeople of the Chinese company, it took ten years of evolution and a development path that is the result of a mix of research, design and technology. The motto that accompanies the latest arrival is, after all, eloquent "Tap the Next" and materializes in a smart watch projected precisely into the future and made with premium materials, such as 904L stainless steel (an alloy usually used in luxury watchmaking for its resistance to corrosion and wear) and aerospace titanium.
