According to people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg writes, the iPhone maker has spoken to both OpenAI and Anthropic of the use of their large language models for Siri and asked them, in a test, to train versions of their models that could run on the infrastructure Apple's cloud. Cupertino already allows ChatGpt to answer Siri's web-based questions, but the assistant itself is managed by Apple. A switch to the Claude models of Anthropic or OpenAI's ChatGpt for Siri would be an acknowledgement of the fact, Bloomberg notes, that the company is considering a reversal of trend and "struggle to compete in intelligence artificial generative, the most important technology of the last decades". Apple's assessment of third-party AI models is at an early stage and the company has not made a decision definitive on their use, Bloomberg notes, a project internal competitor called 'LLM Siri' remains in place development stage.
