The Senate approves the AI delegation bill, it becomes law.

The Senate has definitively approved the government's delegation bill on artificial intelligence, which is now law. There were 77 yes votes, 55 no votes, and 2 abstentions.
The 28-article text establishes "principles for research, testing, development, adoption, and application of AI systems and models." It "promotes the correct, transparent, and responsible use of artificial intelligence, within a human-centric framework, aimed at seizing its opportunities. It ensures oversight of the economic and social risks and the impact on fundamental rights" of AI.
"With this law, the government and the majority are responding with extraordinary speed to a democratic emergency like deepfake," says Forza Italia Senator and Vice President of the Senate, Licia Ronzulli.
"Italian law now complements the European AI Act, offering our country globally innovative safeguards, such as the deepfake crime, which, given the latest serious news events, is more necessary than ever," commented Alberto Barachini, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with responsibility for Information and Publishing.
