Apple introduces AI feature for live translation with captions for messages and calls

Tech giant Apple unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI) feature at its annual software event, WWDC, on Monday that allows users to "overcome language barriers" in messages and calls with live translation and on-screen subtitles . This feature will be part of the new iPhone operating system , iOS 26.
“We’re introducing Live Translation with Apple Intelligence (Apple’s AI). Live Translation can translate conversations instantly. It’s built into Messages, FaceTime, and your phone, and is enabled by Apple-created models running on your device,” the company explained at its developer event at its Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Apple demonstrated this feature with a pre-recorded video of a French-English FaceTime conversation with on-screen subtitles.
The company said this cutting-edge tool “will work seamlessly even when calling someone who doesn’t have an iPhone.”
New translation features will also be coming to Apple Music, the company's music app, with lyrics and pronunciation translations, "so everyone can sing along, regardless of language."
