Apple unveils iOS 26 for iPhone: one of the biggest design changes in history

Apple unveils iOS 26 for iPhone: one of the biggest design changes in history

Apple already gave us a heads-up with the name change for the new generation of iOS, abandoning what everyone thought was going to be iOS 19, to present the revamped iOS 26 at WWDC 2025 on the afternoon of Monday, June 9. The signs were there, and the numbering change was just a minor update.

We say this after learning about all the new features incorporated into the new iPhone operating system, iOS 26, which this time not only incorporates new functions, but also completely changes its design , which will also reach the rest of the company's devices.

This is because iOS 26 introduces the biggest aesthetic change in over a decade, with the new design language called Liquid Glass. This style, inspired by VisionOS, abandons the flat design of iOS since 2013 to make way for a fluid, glossy interface with depth and transparency effects on icons, menus, toolbars, and notifications.

As we mentioned, this design unifies all the company's platforms under elements that replicate glass properties such as transparency and light reflection , which are applied to navigation and controls. This means that elements such as the taskbar and floating windows dynamically adapt to the content displayed on the screen.

The camera in iOS 26 has also been updated to be more intuitive, simple, and modern, with a menu based on two basic controls: photo and video, and the ability to access the rest of the advanced functions with a click. The Photos app, meanwhile, adds a tab for the library and another for collections.

New features powered by Apple Intelligence

And of course, Apple has announced the integration of several new features powered by its artificial intelligence, Apple Intelligence. This is deeply integrated throughout the system, with AI functions running on the device itself, prioritizing privacy.

Highlights include real-time translation of text and audio in calls, FaceTime, and Messages, without the need for an internet connection. Visual Intelligence can analyze on-screen content and suggest actions, such as searching for products, viewing additional information, or automatically adding events to your calendar.
