We should never fight with the United States: Sheinbaum

MEXICO CITY (apro).- Despite pressure from Donald Trump, reinforced by the recent visit of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated that Mexico should not enter into a fight with the United States.
"We always think: keep a cool head, never fight, always seek the best conditions for our country, avoid creating conflict," he said from Tamaulipas, during one of his statewide addresses on the occasion of his first year in office.
The scientist noted that all countries have faced problems with the United States, but emphasized that Mexico faces a unique situation due to its geographic location, as they are neighbors.
"And now that we've had our problems, like every country in the world, actually, but we're neighbors with the United States government, with the United States. We're solving all the problems," he noted.
Trump's accusations against Mexico include the imposition of trade barriers, alleged violations of the USMCA, migration flows, and, above all, the fentanyl crisis linked to drug trafficking.
“But we must be very clear about one thing: we carry this in our hearts, in our minds, and in our history: we negotiate, we coordinate, but we never subordinate ourselves,” Sheinbaum said.
Announcement of social programsFrom Ciudad Victoria, the president reported that by the end of this year, 1,161,351 Tamaulipas residents will be eligible for the Wellbeing Programs, representing a social investment of 22.771 billion pesos.
Sheinbaum emphasized that social programs, along with public works underway and those yet to be implemented in the state, are part of a government model that returns the resources they contribute to the people.
"The resources come from the people of Mexico. What is paid in taxes is returned to the people in Welfare Programs and public works," he added.
