Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will arrive in Poland on Thursday, POLSA confirmed on Tuesday. An official welcome for the Polish astronaut will take place at 11 a.m. at Warsaw Chopin Airport, followed by a press conference.

Uznański-Wiśniewski himself announced his return to Poland on Thursday on Monday on social media. "See you in Poland on Thursday!" he wrote at the time.

Since July 16, the Polish astronaut has been in Cologne, home to ESA's European Astronaut Centre. At the German Aeronautics and Space Centre (DLR) "Envihab," he is undergoing rehabilitation following his 20-day stay in space as part of the IGNIS mission, while ESA's space medicine team is monitoring his health and fitness.

On July 15, the members of the Ax-4 mission – Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski of Poland, Peggy Whitson of America, Tibor Kapu of Hungary, and Shubhanshu Shukla of India – returned to Earth after a stay on the International Space Station (ISS). The Dragon Grace capsule they carried splashed down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California (USA). The Ax-4 crew spent 18 days on the station and a total of 20 days in space (including travel to and from the ISS).

Observers and supporters are preparing to welcome the astronaut. Astronomy promoter Karol Wójcicki, creator of the fanpage "Z głowy w gwiazdach," encouraged people to participate online in the airport reception. "What do you think about a large and loud welcome to Poland for the second Pole in space?" he wrote in a Facebook post. He also appealed to people to bring "banners, posters, laurels, balloons, Polish flags, and even space costumes." (PAP)
