PJ seizes 25 kilos of cocaine at the port of Leixões

The Judicial Police (PJ) seized around 25 kilos of cocaine “with a high degree of purity” at the port of Leixões, in Matosinhos, Porto district, in refrigerated containers from Uruguay , it was announced this Wednesday.
The seizure, carried out as part of measures to combat international drug trafficking, was carried out in refrigerated containers and, according to the PJ, one of these containers showed signs of intrusion into the area housing the refrigerated propulsion unit.
“As these are refrigerated containers, it was found that one of them showed signs of intrusion in the area that houses the refrigeration propulsion group, and it was found that several packages of cocaine, with a high degree of purity, had been stored there,” reads the statement sent by the PJ.
The way the cocaine was transported presupposes the use of the so-called rip-off , a method that depends on the intervention of operators to remove the drug from the container before it reaches the final recipient.
"The operation, which was based on international cooperation mechanisms, resulted in the interception and inspection of a number of shipping containers from Uruguay," the police explained.
The PJ's Northern Directorate has been "intensifying prevention and investigation actions" at the Port of Leixões, which they classify as "one of the main entry points for illicit goods in the northern part of the country."
According to the PJ, investigations continue.
