Poland can become a model for Europe in energy transformation. There is one condition.

Poland can become a model for Europe in energy transformation. There is one condition.
  • Poland has an ambitious plan to generate half of the country's energy from renewable sources by 2030. However, for this goal to become a reality, investments in energy storage are essential, emphasizes a representative of Taiwan's Formosa Smart Energy (FSE).
  • Part of Formosa Plastic Group (FPG), one of Taiwan's largest industrial concerns, FSE recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Polish group SKB in the field of energy technologies.
  • In an interview with WNP, which took place during the Energy Days conference, Jennifer Lee explains why our country is key for the company and how Poland can become an example for the entire European Union.

Poland has become the focus of interest for Taiwanese company Formosa Smart Energy, part of one of the largest industrial holding companies in Asia – Formosa Group. The company has just launched operations in the Polish market and announces that it considers our country one of the pillars of its European expansion.

"Poland is a great market. You have an ambitious goal: 50 percent of our energy is to come from renewable sources by 2030. That's an impressive and very real challenge," says Jennifer Lee in an interview with WNP.PL.

Energy storage – the missing link in the Polish transformation

As the representative of Formosa Smart Energy emphasizes, one of the most important tasks facing Poland is to create a system enabling effective energy storage.

"Grids and renewable energy are important – everyone talks about it – but that alone doesn't provide stability. Nor does it provide the ability to store surplus energy, which is currently wasted," he explains.

From Formosa Smart Energy's perspective , investments in batteries and energy storage systems will determine the pace and success of the energy transition . The Taiwanese company sees enormous potential for cooperation in this area and wants Poland to become a model for the entire European Union, demonstrating how to combine renewable energy development with storage technologies.

- Poland can be a great example for Europe - showing that the energy transformation does not end with wind turbines and photovoltaic panels, but requires a stable technological base - adds the company representative.

Cooperation with the government and operators is the key to success

According to Formosa Smart Energy, to accelerate the process, clear support from the state and transmission network operators is needed.

- We need to hear from the government and operators how renewable energy and storage can improve the quality of life of citizens - ensure reliable supplies and stable operation of the economy - he emphasizes.

This type of message – according to the interviewee – would be a signal to the market that investments in energy storage are not a cost, but a necessity and an opportunity for the entire economy.

Polish electromobility in the sights of Formosa Smart Energy

The company's plans also include development in the area of electromobility. As the interviewee points out, Poland has significant potential for the electrification of public transport, particularly in the electric bus segment.

"Poland has a huge market for e-buses and a goal to transform public transport. This is precisely the area where our technologies can help," says a company representative.

Formosa Smart Energy offers not only energy storage solutions but also technologies for powering and charging electric vehicles. This, it emphasizes, is a natural step in the development of a low-emission economy.

Cooperation with Polish companies has already started

The Taiwanese company is already operating in Poland. It collaborates with the Polish company SKB, and a delegation from Formosa has visited our country twice in recent weeks.

"We're here to show that we take this market seriously and have long-term plans. This isn't a courtesy visit, but the beginning of Formosa Smart Energy's presence in Poland," she assures.

The company plans to devote the coming months to market analysis and education – both for businesses and society – on the benefits of implementing modern energy storage systems.

"We want to teach how to talk about energy and how to explain the need for storage. Poland has enormous potential, but awareness still needs to grow," he emphasizes.

"Poland is heading in the right direction"

When asked about lessons from the Asian experience that could help Poland, the representative of Formosa Smart Energy responds cautiously.

"I wouldn't want to transfer our solutions from Asia directly to Poland. It's a country with its own history and specificity. But the direction you're heading in is very good—and, in my opinion, the right one," she says.

In her opinion, Poland has all the conditions to become one of the leaders of the green transformation in Europe. It just needs to maintain the pace of change, support education, and develop cooperation between the public and private sectors.

- If Poland maintains this course, the results will come faster than we expect - he concludes.

Formosa Smart Energy is a Taiwanese company specializing in energy storage technologies, electromobility and industrial power systems, belonging to the Formosa Group – one of the largest industrial groups in Asia.
