Trump calls Jimmy Kimmel's suspension "good news"

US President Donald Trump has called ABC's suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel's show due to comments about Charlie Kirk "good news."
"Kimmel's show, with its low ratings, is canceled; congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage," Trump said Wednesday on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The Republican head of state called Kimmel “a complete failure” and emphasized that, in his opinion, the audience levels for the program “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “are terrible” .
The television network's decision came after Nexstar, which represents ABC's local affiliates nationwide, indefinitely suspended the primetime show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" due to the comedian's comments about Kirk, the conservative activist murdered on September 10.
"Mr. Kimmel's comments about Mr. Kirk's death are offensive and insensitive at a critical moment in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the full range of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we operate," said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division.
"Nexstar strongly objects to Mr. Kimmel's recent comments regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming on its ABC affiliates," the company said.
On Monday, Kimmel said that after Kirk's death, the country had reached "new lows."
“The MAGA gang ['Make America Great Again', a movement that supports Trump] desperately tried to characterize the guy [Tyler Robinson] who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of their own, doing everything they could for political gain,” the comedian said.
“Amid the accusations, there was (…) mourning — on Friday, the White House lowered the flags to half-staff, which generated some criticism, but, on a human level, it’s clear how moved the President is,” Kimmel quipped, before cutting to a clip in which reporters ask Trump how he’s dealing with Kirk’s death, and he responds “very well,” then goes on to talk about the construction of the new White House ballroom.
A spokesperson for Kimmel did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Like famous CBS comedian Stephen Colbert, Kimmel has consistently criticized Donald Trump and many of his policies on his ABC show.
CBS announced this summer that it would cancel Colbert's show at the end of the current season, citing financial reasons.
Born on November 13, 1967 in New York, Kimmel has hosted the ABC program “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” since 2003, which regularly leads the ratings among entertainment programs and has gone viral with its interviews and sketches.
