Zara celebrates 50 years with a film featuring 50 icons

“50 years, 50 icons”. This is how Zara will celebrate five decades of existence this Friday, May 9th, 50 years after opening the brand’s first store in A Coruña, Spain. To mark the date, a short film by photographer Steven Meisel will be released starring 50 of the world’s best models. Among them are Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista.

Each of them wears pieces from a new Zara collection that also launched on Friday. Comprising 128 pieces , it focuses on the monochromatic classicism of the tuxedo , with an appeal that is both timeless and limitless. Throughout the video, the 50 models are seen posing while singing Donna Summer’s 1977 song “I Feel Love,” celebrating creativity, longevity and love of fashion.

Creativity is at the heart of Zara – it’s our defining characteristic,” says Marta Ortega Pérez, current non-executive chairman of Inditex and daughter of Zara founder Amancio Ortega. “This incredible film by Steven Meisel is an expression of creative freedom, and the magic we always want to create. Starring 50 of the world’s top models, renowned for their beauty, but also for their personality and strength, the film celebrates Zara’s 50th anniversary and the campaign highlights the legacy created by Zara’s teams over the past five decades, honouring their enthusiasm, talent and boundless creativity,” she continues in a statement.

The new Zara 50th anniversary collection was designed by Karl Templer and, in Portugal, is available at Zara Rossio — the mega store that opened its doors in September last year in the block of the former Pastelaria Suíça — or online.
