Artificial intelligence is back in focus! Meta acquires audio startup Play AI

Meta has acquired Play AI, a startup that uses artificial intelligence to create sounds that mimic human voices.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed the acquisition, according to Bloomberg. The same report also noted that an internal memo from the company indicated that the entire PlayAI team would join Meta next week.

The internal memo stated that PlayAI's work on creating natural voices and its platform for easy voice production aligns perfectly with Meta's work and roadmap in AI Characters, Meta AI, wearable devices, and audio content production. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Meta has been making some moves recently in the AI race. In addition to bringing in talent from OpenAI, Meta's CEO, Alexandr Wang, joined the company following a deal with Scale AI. Wang is reportedly heading a new group focused on superintelligence.
