Promising results in laser-free eye treatment

According to the research presented at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society held in Washington, the capital of the USA, this method, which shapes the corneal layer of the eye with electric current instead of laser , is applied with a technique called electromechanical shaping (EMR).
In this technique, an electric current temporarily loosens collagen bonds in the tissues, allowing the cornea to reshape. When the electricity is turned off, the tissue stabilizes in its new form.
RARELY CAUSES STRUCTURAL PROBLEMSLASIK surgery has become a common method for correcting eye defects, having been performed on more than 10 million people in the US alone since 1999. However, laser incisions can, in rare cases, cause structural problems in the eye. The EMR technique, on the other hand, aims to reshape the cornea without using incisions or lasers. Researchers have previously used the same technique to shape rabbit ears and alter scars on pig skin. Now, they are investigating whether the same principle can be made safe for the human eye.
