Forget the Galaxy S25, Samsung confirms something 'light years ahead' is coming soon

Samsung's latest Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra are two of the best Android phones you can buy right now, but they may soon be eclipsed by something new. The Korean technology giant has just sent emails to loyal customers confirming that a 'category-defining' smartphone is on its way.
To add to the excitement, the message states that this device will be 'light years' ahead.
"Our brand new Galaxy smartphone is almost here," the email confirms.
"Our next category defining smartphone. Light years ahead.”
So, what is this mystery smartphone, and should you hold off buying anything else until it's announced?
Samsung hasn't officially announced what is on its way, but all signs point to the launch of the razor-thin Galaxy S25 Edge. This ludicrously thin phone was first shown to the world back in January with Samsung giving fans a surprise glimpse of the device during its Unpacked event in San Jose, California..

We will hopefully get full specs, price and a release date soon, but what we do know about this device already is that it measures in at just 5.8mm thin - that's compared to the S25 Ultra's case, which is 8.2mm thick.
Having seen it briefly in the flesh, we also know that it has a dual-lens camera, all-metal design and expansive 6.6-inch screen.
It's expected to feature Qualcomm's rapid Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and extras such as an embedded fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers.
That's all we know for now but Samsung is ramping up the excitement with an interesting off. Those prepared to sign up and put a £50 'refundable' deposit down before the grand unveiling will get money off when the device is launched.
“Pay a refundable £50 deposit by 9th May and get an automatic £100 off when you pre-order,” Samsung confirmed.

Rumours are rife that the US technology giant is planning to release an iPhone 17 Air which will also feature a skinny design.
If correct, we expect to see that phone unveiled during the firm’s update, which usually takes place in September.
