Trump ends Middle East triptych with another deal worth hundreds of billions

Trump ends Middle East triptych with another deal worth hundreds of billions
  • During the final stage of his visit to the countries of the Persian Gulf region, Donald Trump signed agreements with the United Arab Emirates.
  • The agreements cover traditional industry, raw materials and artificial intelligence.
  • During his trip, the US President signed many bilateral agreements between the US and Middle Eastern countries.

This is the third and final leg of the US president’s visit to the Middle East . Earlier this week, the White House announced investments of $600 billion from Saudi Arabia and more than $243 billion from Qatar. Trump has made securing business deals a centerpiece of his first planned foreign trip since returning to office.

Trump's UAE Deal: Planes, Oil, Aluminum, and Minerals

According to Bloomberg, the agreements between the US and the UAE include:

  • Etihad Airways' $14.5 billion commitment to invest in 28 Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft powered by GE Aerospace engines
  • ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum and EOG Resources plan to partner with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to boost $60 billion in oil and gas production
  • A $4 billion primary aluminum smelter project that Emirates Global Aluminum will develop in Oklahoma.
  • RTX partners with Emirates Global Aluminum and UAE Tawazun Council on gallium project to strengthen critical U.S. mineral supply
Trump's Middle East Deals: Artificial Intelligence in Focus

Artificial intelligence has been a central focus of many of the deals Trump has negotiated , with Gulf nations seeking greater access to cutting-edge chips to become hubs for emerging technology and diversify their economies. Thursday’s announcements include:

  • Qualcomm plans to help develop new 'global engineering center' in Abu Dhabi focused on AI and data centers
  • The new AI campus in the UAE, to be built by G42, the crown jewel of the country’s technology ambitions, and operated in partnership with several American companies, will include 5 gigawatts of AI data center capacity, the U.S. Department of Commerce said, providing a regional platform for large cloud or compute providers.
  • Amazon Web Services - formerly telecommunications company Etisalat - and the UAE Cybersecurity Council will work together to strengthen public cloud services in the country.

The Trump administration was considering a deal that would allow the UAE to import more than a million advanced Nvidia chips .

Trump also worked out arrangements for parties in Saudi Arabia to acquire tens of thousands of semiconductors from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.

Thursday's agreements build on the UAE's commitment to invest $1.4 trillion in the U.S. over 10 years, including in AI infrastructure , semiconductors, energy and manufacturing, following a meeting in March between Trump and the country's national security adviser, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Trump announced plans earlier this year for Abu Dhabi-based MGX to launch a $100 billion AI infrastructure venture. MGX is part of Sheikh Tahnoon’s sprawling $1.5 trillion empire that includes wealth funds and AI firm G42.

G42 has established itself as a promising tech conglomerate with ties to US companies including OpenAI and Amazon.

Trump's visit to the Middle East was full of important events

Earlier, Trump signed trade deals with Qatar worth at least $1.2 trillion . The White House said they include Boeing’s largest-ever order for up to 210 787 and 777X Dreamliners for $96 billion, as well as deals with a number of other U.S. companies for investments in critical infrastructure, LNG and defense.

At the beginning of his visit to the countries of the Persian Gulf region, Donald Trump signed agreements with Saudi Arabia . The White House reported that under the agreement, the Saudis are to invest $600 billion in the United States , including the largest defense sales agreement worth almost $142 billion.

During his trip to the Middle East, Trump announced that the U.S. would lift sanctions on Syria and normalize relations with the new authorities that overthrew the regime of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
