Ericsson restructures its subsidiary in Spain with the departure of its CEO, Diego Martínez.

Ericsson , the Swedish mobile network manufacturer, has completed a drastic restructuring of its subsidiary in Spain, which involves the departure of its current chief executive, Diego Martínez, who arrived in November 2024 from Masorange, and his replacement by Frenchman Christian Leon.

The changes are due to Ericsson's decision to reduce the number of country clusters it had divided into in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East from seven to three. Until now, Spain was part of one of those seven clusters, forming the Iberian region, which also included Portugal. Now, those divisions are concentrated in just three, and Spain is included in the Europe West cluster , which, in addition to Spain and Portugal, includes other major countries such as France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg . The multinational has decided that the top executive for business purposes of this entire group of countries will be Christian León , a French executive who, until now, was the top executive of the cluster that included France, a larger market than Spain.

This means Diego Martínez's departure from the group. In addition, Spanish executive Juan Olivera has been appointed as country manager, a legal entity. Olivera was previously the CEO of Portugal and will continue his executive role as head of the Portuguese business's income statement. He will also serve as chairman of the Spanish subsidiary's board of directors and will also represent Ericsson Spain institutionally, representing it before the Spanish government and various public administrations, as well as in associations and the media. The company issued a statement indicating that Olivera will report to Christian Leon and "will represent Ericsson Spain before the government, institutions, and other external stakeholders . Commercial responsibility within Ericsson in Spain will continue to be managed by the country's sales organization, which will also report to Christian Leon ."

The arrival of Christian Leon, to whom the firm's account directors in Spain will report, also marks a reshuffle of the Spanish subsidiary's management committee, with numerous departures expected in the coming weeks.
