AI company Anthropic triples its market value to $183 billion

American artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic, whose assistant Claude is one of the main competitors of OpenAI's ChatGPT, announced on Tuesday (2) that it has reached a value of 183 billion dollars (R$ 1 trillion, at the current exchange rate) after a new round of financing.
The San Francisco-based company announced on Monday the completion of a funding round in which it raised $13 billion (R$71.12 billion), led by ICONIQ, Fidelity Management & Research Co and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
"Based on this funding, Anthropic is valued at $183 billion," details a blog post, three times the valuation revealed in early March.
According to Anthropic, these funds will be used to develop its capabilities, deepen its security research, and support its international expansion.
The company, known for its chatbot Claude, competes with services from Google (Gemini), OpenAI (ChatGPT), xAI (Grok), Meta and Microsoft, in a frantic race for generative AI that costs hundreds of billions of dollars.
According to several media outlets, the leader OpenAI is in talks to allow its employees to sell their shares, which would make the company worth approximately 500 billion dollars (R$ 2.73 trillion).
As for xAI, its owner Elon Musk is seeking to organize a new round of financing that would raise its value to between $170 billion and $200 billion (R$930 billion and R$1.09 trillion), according to the Financial Times.
