Almost 15 years later, Instagram has (finally) arrived on the iPad

Since its launch in October 2010, Instagram users have been asking for a social network app for Apple's iPad. Now, almost 15 years after Instagram's arrival, it appears their request has finally been granted.
The Instagram app was officially released for iPad this Wednesday, the 3rd, and is compatible with all models with (at least) iPadOS 15.1 installed. However, this version of Instagram has some differences compared to the app users are used to seeing on their phones.
TechCrunch reports that when you open the Instagram app on your iPad, the social network immediately displays Reels videos, not the feed as it does on mobile devices. However, this version of Instagram for iPad offers all the usual features—such as Stories, private messages, and the Explore tab.
"Instagram has always been a place where people connect through creativity, and Reels has become an important way for people to discover and share fun content," Instagram's statement read. "With Instagram for iPad, we've redesigned the experience to reflect how people use larger screens today—to relax and have fun. Now, when you open the app, you'll see Reels. So you can access the fun content you love on a bigger screen."
Instagram also indicates that the larger screen was used “to offer people more features with fewer touches, in a simple way” .
"When viewing Reels, you can expand comments while keeping the Reel full screen, making it easy to follow the best reactions without missing a moment. It's the Instagram you love, now with more room to have fun," the company notes.
