Apple introduces new age limits for the App Store

Apple introduces new age limits for the App Store

Decisions made in Europe and the US specifically aim to control the social media and app usage experiences of younger age groups. In addition to Meta's new age limits, Apple is also introducing new age categories for the App Store, such as 13+ and 18+. This will allow users to easily identify the age group for which apps are suitable.

DIFFERENT AGE LIMITS FOR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS

The App Store previously had different age limits: 4, 9, 12, and 17+. Apple is changing this, now introducing age limits of 13, 16, and 18. This change will allow developers to make their apps age-appropriate.

Age ratings are determined automatically and based on developer survey responses.

Apple has set a deadline of January 31, 2026 for the final changes to be made accordingly.
