ERMAKSAN to Produce Domestically Produced Naval Cannon for the Turkish Navy

ERMAKSAN has successfully completed the first firing tests of the THUNDERBOLT 40/70 T naval gun, developed to meet the needs of the Turkish Naval Forces. Produced entirely domestically, the system is considered a significant step toward Türkiye's goal of reducing its external dependency in the defense industry.
In the statement made by the company, it was emphasized that the project, carried out within the scope of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed with the Ministry of National Defense, was implemented with the understanding of 100 percent domestic production, including spare parts.
600 Shots, 12,500 Meters Range
ERMAKSAN Chairman Erol Özkayan stated that the THUNDERBOLT naval gun, with its double-barrel design, can fire 300 rounds per barrel, for a total of 600 rounds per minute. Özkayan noted that its maximum range reaches 12,500 meters and that the weapon system offers high maneuverability with its 360-degree rotation capability.
Will Perform at IDEF 2025
ERMAKSAN will exhibit not only the THUNDERBOLT naval gun but also products such as the SM 81 sharp-wedge mortar, military-grade laser systems, FBG sensors and 3D metal printing technologies at the IDEF 2025 International Defense Industry Fair to be held at the Istanbul Fair Center from July 22-27.
Özkayan said, “We are contributing to the localization of many strategic products by focusing on advanced technology,” and added, “We are excited and proud to introduce our domestic and national solutions to the world at IDEF 2025.”
