Investments in the electronic communications sector have increased

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, in a written statement, evaluated the data in the Annual Market Data Bulletin prepared by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK).

Uraloğlu stated that in parallel with current technological developments, the investment made by electronic communication companies in the sector increased by 80 percent last year compared to 2023 and reached 94.1 billion liras, and noted that the number of 4.5G subscribers reached 87.6 million.

INTERNET USAGE RATE IS ABOVE THE WORLD AVERAGE

Uraloğlu noted that the number of subscribers to electronic communication services in Turkey exceeded 131.9 million, and that the internet usage rate was 88.8 percent, above the world average of 68 percent.

Uraloğlu, who reported that the number of fixed broadband subscribers increased to 20.5 million and the number of mobile broadband subscribers to 75.9 million last year, shared the information, "The amount of data used by fixed broadband subscribers increased approximately 2.2 times in 4 years, and the amount of data used by mobile subscribers increased 2.3 times."

NUMBER OF FIBER SUBSCRIBERS INCREASED TO 8.1 MILLION

Uraloğlu underlined that the fiber cable length, which was 424.9 kilometers in 2020, reached 605 thousand kilometers last year, and said, "The number of fiber subscribers, which was 4 million in 2020, reached 8.1 million last year."

Uraloğlu also provided information about the number of mobile subscribers, saying, "The number of mobile subscribers exceeded 94.3 million last year, while the number of 4.5G subscribers exceeded 87 million. While the prevalence of 4.5G subscribers by population was 102.3 percent last year, this figure was determined as 123.3 percent for Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Antalya. According to the number of mobile subscribers, these 5 provinces had 47 percent of the total subscribers."

Uraloğlu stated that subscriber mobility between operators in mobile services is intense, that an average of 10.6 million mobile numbers were transferred annually in the 2020-2024 period, and that this number reached 190 million last year.

NUMBER OF LANDLINE PHONE SUBSCRIBER DECREASED

Uraloğlu, who also made an evaluation regarding fixed telephone services, stated that a decrease was observed in the number of subscribers and penetration rate of fixed telephone services in the 2020-2024 period, and that at the end of the period, the number of subscribers decreased to 9 million and the penetration rate decreased to 10.6 percent.

Minister Uraloğlu noted that call origination traffic was approximately 5.7 billion minutes at the end of 2020, and this number will be approximately 5.1 billion minutes in 2024.
