iPhone 17 is a hit... Sales are high

Apple ’s latest-generation iPhones are off to a faster start than ever, with the most basic model seeing increasing popularity. According to Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 17 series outsold the iPhone 16 series by 14 percentage points in the first 10 days of their release in the US and China. The data, the first quantitative measure of consumer response in Apple’s two largest markets, shows that the standard iPhone 17 is seeing significantly higher demand than last year’s $799 model. Counterpoint analysts attribute this increase to the improved display, more storage, and the upgraded A19 chip. “Consumers are adapting to the enhanced features and upgrades of the base iPhone 17,” said senior analyst Ivan Lam. “Sales in China were nearly double those of the base iPhone 16 during its initial launch, and that momentum is continuing into October.” At the other end of Apple’s lineup, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is also seeing strong demand, particularly in the US. Counterpoint said people who bought their last phones during the pandemic are finally looking to upgrade. Apple's new top-tier phone boasts the best cameras yet, an improved heat dissipation system, and the most significant physical design in years. Apple, based in Cupertino, California, still generates about half of its revenue from the iPhone. Despite some strides in AI features and development, the company has managed to maintain strong sales of the device, and Chinese consumers are still waiting for Apple Intelligence to become available in the country.
