Surprise move from Musk: He will bring back the legendary app with artificial intelligence

Launched in 2012, Vine was a unique platform that allowed users to share six-second looping videos. Twitter acquired the app in 2013 under Jack Dorsey's leadership, but it was shut down on January 17, 2017, due to various internal issues, lack of investment, and an inability to pay content creators.

'THE FUTURE OF CONTENT'

Musk announced the news on the X platform (formerly Twitter), and while not providing any details, he stated that all content would be generated by AI (artificial intelligence). The post garnered thousands of comments. One user expressed support for the project by commenting, "AI + short video = the future of content."

Some users suggested that this move wouldn't just be a rival to TikTok, but could also replace human content creators. However, Musk's idea of reviving Vine isn't new. After purchasing Twitter for $40 billion in 2022, Musk conducted a poll on October 30, 2022, asking users, "Should Vine come back?" 69% of those who voted said "yes."

Vine once boasted 200 million active users, and the platform has shaped the careers of many celebrities, including Shawn Mendes, Jake Paul, and Andrew King Bachelor.

It was purchased for $30 million

Twitter acquired Vine for about $30 million, allowing users to share content with their followers. However, the platform was left stranded due to difficulties paying creators and a lack of new investment.

YouTube phenomenon Mr. Beast also supported Musk's idea of reviving Vine. "If you could develop a version that would truly compete with TikTok, that would be a lot of fun," he said. He noted that other platforms have imitated TikTok and said Vine needs to return with an originality that's hard to imitate.

In 2023, Musk shared the message, “We need to bring back a better version of Vine,” and in 2024, he said, “We are looking into this,” indicating that he had not shelved the project.

Musk's latest statement suggests that his past signals are finally materializing. The AI-powered remake of Vine could revolutionize content creation.
