Trump's chip move: Will increase pressure on China

In the US , the Trump administration is working to tighten controls on the chip sector. According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration plans to tighten semiconductor restrictions on China, continuing and expanding the Biden administration’s efforts to limit Beijing’s technological power. In this context, US officials recently met with their Japanese and Dutch counterparts to restrict Tokyo Electron and ASML engineers from keeping semiconductor hardware in China. It was stated that the US administration wants to see key allies comply with China’s restrictions. It was stated that Trump demanded that allies adopt the practices applied to American companies such as Lam Research, KLA and Applied Materials. It was also reported that he aimed to restrict the amount and type of Nvidia chips exported to China. Shares of Japanese chip companies fell following the news. Tokyo Electron led the decline with 4.4 percent.
