Attacks on Polish energy infrastructure. Artificial intelligence to help

Faced with a growing number of threats, both digital and physical, Poland is seeking to strengthen the protection of its energy infrastructure. Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska points to the growing role of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, as one of the cornerstones of this process.

According to her, critical energy facilities in Poland are regularly targeted by various types of attacks .

"Energy infrastructure, critical energy infrastructure, is subjected to various tests practically every month. These include both digital attacks and physical threats. We are repelling these attacks, but of course the development of artificial intelligence, modern technologies, and the use of AI can help us build the resilience of this infrastructure effectively," Hennig-Kloska said in an interview with WNP.

The Minister also drew attention to the need to invest in domestic technological solutions that will take into account local needs and realities without excessive dependence on foreign suppliers.

- Building software and solutions that are adequate to our needs here in Poland, in Europe, and not in China or on other continents, also gives us the tools to build resilience - he emphasizes.

In her opinion, properly designed and implemented systems can play a decisive role in ensuring the country's long-term energy security. However, Hennig-Kloska also noted that digitalization should not be limited to the energy sector. She emphasized that implementing digital solutions in public administration is crucial, improving its effectiveness and accessibility for citizens.

"Digitalizing our country is one of the key challenges we face. This will also make our administration more accessible and more efficient," he says.

The words of the Minister of the Environment are part of the discussion on the need to increase the state's resilience to hybrid threats.
