Hollywood studios sue Chinese platform for AI-generated royalty-free images

Walt Disney Co., Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery have filed a lawsuit against Chinese company MiniMax, accusing it of using its Haiko AI video and image generation service to create copyrighted copies.
In China, the service is promoted in online media as a pocket Hollywood studio that allows you to watch heroes known from the big screen.
"The responsible use of AI innovation is crucial, and the lawsuit against MiniMax once again demonstrates our shared commitment to holding lawbreakers accountable wherever they may be," the studios said in a joint statement.
The solution used allows you to install an application on your phone or computer that uses artificial intelligence to download video fragments.
A properly formulated text query causes, for example, the Minions from the "Despicable Me" series, Shrek, Mickey Mouse or Darth Vader from the "Star Wars" series to appear on the screen.
The studios are seeking damages , a court order to stop piracy activities and a ban on promoting such services on the internet.
