Trillions of dollars are being spent on artificial intelligence. The costs of developing the necessary infrastructure are skyrocketing.

Analysts at the American bank Citigroup Inc. have raised the forecast for the costs of developing the infrastructure necessary for artificial intelligence technologies by 2029 to $2.8 trillion.

Previous estimates put capital expenditures at $2.3 trillion. This change is due to the enormous demand for AI-powered solutions.

Forecasts regarding the investment plans of the world's largest IT companies and the increase in expenditures by leading data center operators mean that it will be necessary to find sources of financing for them, writes Reuters in a statement.

Capital expenditures by data center operators , including Microsoft Corp. and Amazon.com Inc., will reach $490 billion by the end of 2026, up from $420 billion previously forecast.

Citi estimates that global demand for AI computing power , measured by electricity consumption, will reach approximately 55 GW by 2030. In the United States, rapid construction of new power plant capacity is necessary.
