Heatwave: 17 departments still on orange alert Thursday and Friday

This relief is not yet unanimously shared. The Rhône-Alpes region, the Mediterranean region, and Corsica are still experiencing intense heat, with 17 departments on orange heatwave alert until Friday, according to Météo France, although the air has become more breathable across much of the country.
The departments that remain under orange alert are Rhône, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère, Drôme, Ardèche, Vaucluse, Gard, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, Hérault, Aude, Pyrénées-Orientales and the two departments of Corsica.
"On Thursday and Friday, the very high temperatures will gradually be restricted to the south-eastern quarter of France, where maximum temperatures will still reach 32 to 36°C, or even occasionally reach 38°C," the meteorological service indicates in its latest bulletin.
"At the end of the night, temperatures dropped significantly below 20°C in the north-western half of the country, while they are still often between 20 and 25°C in the plains south of the La Rochelle-Strasbourg line," adds Météo France.
Most of the country experienced the last day of a heatwave on Wednesday that will go down in history for its early onset, duration and record temperatures.
