Although Amazon began as a shopping platform, over the years, the success it has garnered has allowed the app to grow and diversify, introducing new services free of charge to users, the most famous of which are undoubtedly Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Music.

Being a member of Amazon Prime, the company's subscription service, gives you access to all kinds of platforms and benefits within the platform. But even outside of this membership, the company founded by Jeff Bezos also offers access to other services for free.

However, as we've just learned, Amazon will be shutting down the standalone app for its free streaming service, Freevee, in August of this year.

Amazon Freeview, launched in June 2022 as a result of the rebranding of IMDb TV, is a free ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) platform that offers access to a library of original titles consisting of films and series , as well as more than 75 'Free Ad-supported Streaming Television' (FAST) channels.

The company announced in November of last year that it would discontinue its Freevee streaming service and migrate all series and film titles offered on that platform to its Prime Video service library.

Despite this announcement, users were still able to continue using the standalone Freevee app, and now Amazon has announced that it will officially shut down the platform's app.

Starting in August, users will need to access their Prime Video library to continue watching content, including series like Mad Men: Lost, Bosch: Legacy, and other Amazon original series.
