The secretary general of the Cuautla city council was shot and transported by air ambulance.

CUERNAVACA, Mor. (apro).- The general secretary of the Cuautla City Council, Alfredo Escalona Arias, was the target of a firearm attack on Wednesday afternoon in the Cuautlixco neighborhood, near the Cuautla Drinking Water and Sanitation Operating System (SOAPSC). So far, no authorities have reported any arrests or progress in identifying those responsible.
According to police sources, the attack occurred around 4:49 p.m. on Antigua del Calvario Street when armed individuals intercepted the officer and fired at least two shots. According to the municipal Secretary of Public Security, José Francisco Delgadillo Cadena, Escalona Arias was shot once in the shoulder and once in the upper back.
After the attack, people in the area transported him to the General Hospital of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Cuautla, where he was stabilized by medical personnel. He was later evacuated by air ambulance to a specialized hospital in an operation coordinated by the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and state authorities.
The Cuautla City Council issued a statement condemning the incident, confirming that the official is in stable condition, and reiterating its willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
Cuautla, located 54.3 kilometers from Cuernavaca, the capital of the state of Morelos, has been identified as an area with a high presence of criminal groups. On May 14, during the presentation of the Committees of Weavers of the Homeland in this municipality, President Claudia Sheinbaum acknowledged the insecurity situation and announced the strengthening of the security strategy after being approached by residents who demanded greater attention.
The municipal government is headed by Jesús Corona Damián, who came to office through a coalition comprised of the PAN, PRI, PRD, and Progressive Social Networks. During his campaign, he was the victim of an armed attack, and one of his close associates was murdered. Since then, the municipality has experienced several acts of violence that have affected both officials and the population.
