Miilux OY is ready to produce the steel for the national submarine

Miilux OY, Türkiye's sole armor steel manufacturer, will unveil its newly launched submarine steel in profile form at IDEF'25, to be held in Istanbul from July 22-27. With this new production initiative, Miilux OY has achieved domestic production capabilities for the steel required for a submarine hull.
Yavuz Yeldan, General Manager of Miilux OY in Turkey, stated that they are strengthening the domestic production capacity in the defense industry with the armor steel and submarine steel they produce in their Manisa factory and increasing the sector's resilience in global competition. He said, "We will introduce our high-tech products to the world at IDEF, which is heavily attended by public and private sector representatives, as well as domestic and foreign delegations."
Miilux OY, Türkiye's sole domestic armor steel manufacturer, will introduce its innovative, high-strength armor steel products to domestic and international industry stakeholders at IDEF (International Defense Industry Fair), the international meeting point for the defense industry. IDEF, one of the defense industry's most prestigious platforms, will host visitors at the Istanbul Expo Center from July 22-27.
At the fair, Miilux OY will be showcasing its newly launched submarine steel profiles for the first time. In addition to its armor steel and submarine steel products, it will also be showcasing a sample of an armored vehicle side door armor system and an armored vehicle capsule offering varying levels of protection.
Yavuz Yeldan, General Manager for Turkey at Miilux OY, which OYAK acquired in 2019 to reduce Türkiye's external dependency on armor steel, said, "This strategic step has laid a strong foundation for product development efforts for the domestic and national defense industry. The armor steels produced by Miilux OY are critical to achieving independence in the defense industry."
Yeldan noted that Istanbul hosts industry professionals every two years at IDEF, adding that the fair offers the opportunity to showcase Türkiye's position and production capacity in the defense industry to the world. "As Miilux OY," he said, "at IDEF, which is a crucial platform for defense industry companies to develop new collaborations and promote their products on an international scale, we will be showcasing our advanced technology products to the global market."
Yeldan stated that Türkiye has entered the league of submarine steel producing countries with Miilux OY, and that they have succeeded in producing submarine steel in profile form, following the submarine steel in sheet form they exhibited for the first time at IDEF'23.
Yeldan, announcing that they will be introducing this product, which requires high technology and engineering capabilities, for the first time at IDEF'25, said, "The production of a submarine hull requires both steel plates and profile steels to provide strength. With our new production initiative, we have achieved the capability to produce all the necessary submarine hull construction steel domestically. With the production of Miilux OY, Türkiye has become one of the few countries in the world capable of producing submarine steel."
Noting that submarine steels developed by Miilux OY are planned to be used in the MİLDEN (National Submarine) project, Yeldan explained that the production of test blocks and testing processes for the said products are continuing.
Capacity to meet the armor needs of land vehiclesYavuz Yeldan emphasized that thanks to their investments and R&D activities, they have achieved significant production capacity in the field of armor steel. He stated that Miilux OY's product portfolio offers the necessary armor solutions for all land vehicles, including main battle tanks. Yeldan stated, "In this context, various products with thicknesses exceeding 50 mm, required for main battle tank platforms, have been successfully tested by internationally accredited institutions."
First export to AzerbaijanYeldan noted that they made their first export of heat-treated, high-strength steel products to Azerbaijan in 2024 and that they will export to various markets this year. He stated that they aim to grow in global markets, particularly in the surrounding region and Europe, and emphasized that they are taking concrete steps to deliver their high-tech armor steel to various regions of the world in the coming period.
