SpaceX launched its 10,000th Starlink satellite

The company launched another 56 devices into orbit using Falcon 9 rockets on October 19, 2025. This was the 132nd Falcon 9 launch in 2025, tying the annual record set last year.
Approximately 8,608 Starlink satellites are currently operational. The remaining 1,400 or so have been decommissioned and burned up in the atmosphere. The average lifespan of Starlink satellites is approximately five years.
The first Starlink prototypes were launched in February 2018, and commercial service began in 2021.
SpaceX has permission to launch up to 12,000 satellites and plans to launch more than 30,000 satellites to provide both high-speed and low-latency internet around the world.
The project aims to meet the need for global internet access, especially in remote areas.
