Grandmaster Tarık Akan's comment on Türkiye's current state in 2013, saying "I have never seen such dark days," has once again become a trending topic on social media.

Tarık Akan said this 12 years ago:

I didn't experience such a period in '71 or '80. I've never seen such dark days. I can clearly see what the anti-secular, anti-Atatürkist foundations they laid will bring to this country in another 15-20 years. The government today isn't aware of this, and neither is the opposition. All these blows against Mustafa Kemal, secularism, and democracy, which have been dug up and attempted to be destroyed for 11 years, will make us long for the darkness we see today in 20 years. Because that young generation, in their minds, is growing up.
